“Will Frame You In Drug Case”: Viral Video Allegedly Shows Mumbai Cop Threatening Detained Students With False Drug Case
Mumbai: A video that appears to show a Mumbai Police officer threatening detained student protesters with being framed in a false drug case has gone viral, drawing sharp political reactions and pushing the police to order an inquiry. The clip surfaced during the ongoing student protests in Mumbai over the alleged NEET paper leak, and has raised fresh questions about how police have handled the demonstrations.
In the video, the officer is allegedly heard warning a group of detained youths that if they protest again, he’ll “plant 50 grams of powder” in their pockets language he reportedly used to make clear it would end any chance of bail and derail their lives. He’s also purportedly heard telling them, “There is no one worse than me. You people are causing trouble for us,” while warning them off joining future demonstrations.

Congress shared the video on social media and condemned the remarks, saying that if authentic, it amounts to more than intimidation it’s an attack on democratic rights. “Raising one’s voice is not a crime. Questions should be answered with accountability, not threats,” the party said in its post.
Maharashtra Congress Chief Reacts
Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal also weighed in, accusing the police of threatening students with fabricated narcotics cases to keep them from protesting. “See how much depravity is underway! Allegations are being made that the police are issuing threats like, ‘If you participate in the movement, we’ll plant 50 grams of drugs in your pocket and throw you inside.’ This repression, stooping to such low levels to silence the students’ voice, is a black mark on democracy,” Sapkal said.

The video has since spread widely across social media, drawing criticism from opposition leaders and activists at a moment when anger over police handling of the student protests both in Delhi and Mumbai is already running high.
Mumbai Police Order Inquiry
Mumbai Police said an inquiry has been ordered to check the video’s authenticity and the circumstances around it. “This is to inform that Mumbai Police has ordered an enquiry in the matter and action will be taken after verifying the facts,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Akbar Pathan said in an official statement.
The inquiry lands as political parties keep up pressure on the police over their handling of the protests. Authorities haven’t confirmed the officer’s identity or whether the remarks were made as alleged for now, any further action depends on what the inquiry finds.
