Voters Will Decide My Seat: Chirag Paswan on Bihar Elections

Union Minister Chirag Paswan declared on Sunday that he will participate in Bihar’s upcoming assembly elections scheduled for later this year. The leader of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) made this significant announcement during a political gathering in Ara, located in Bhojpur district, where he officially launched his party’s electoral campaign.

Speaking at the rally, Paswan emphasized his commitment to the state and its residents. “I will contest the assembly polls in Bihar. I will contest not just in Bihar but for Bihar and its people. I am the son of Ram Vilas Paswan. I will realise the dreams of my father and work for ‘Bihar first, Bihari first’ to change Bihar,” the news agency PTI reported Paswan as stating. The slogan he referenced was one he had introduced during the 2020 assembly election campaign.

When questioned about his preferred constituency, the Hajipur Member of Parliament indicated that this decision would rest with Bihar’s electorate rather than being predetermined by him. “It is for the people of Bihar to decide from which seat in the state I should contest in the upcoming assembly polls. Whenever I take a political decision, I take it for the sake of the state and its people,” the former actor turned politician explained.

Paswan also addressed speculation surrounding his electoral intentions, clarifying that his decision to enter the assembly race should not be interpreted as harboring chief ministerial aspirations. He expressed his preference for competing from an unreserved constituency while dismissing any personal ambitions for the state’s top position.

The Union Minister stressed that his participation would primarily benefit his party’s overall performance and strengthen the National Democratic Alliance’s position in the state. “Let me make one thing very clear. My contest will only ensure a better strike rate for my party, which would help the NDA,” he stated during his address.

This announcement marks a significant development in Bihar’s political landscape as the state prepares for its assembly elections. Paswan’s entry into the electoral fray is expected to influence the dynamics within the ruling alliance and could potentially reshape campaign strategies across party lines.

The LJP(RV) leader’s decision to leave the constituency selection to public sentiment reflects a strategic approach that seeks to demonstrate his connection with the grassroots while avoiding potential controversy over seat allocation within the alliance framework.
