Vasai Virar Brace for Week-Long Water Disruption from April 4 as Surya Yojana Phase 2 Work Begins

Mumbai: Residents across Vasai Virar are heading into a difficult week as the local municipal corporation confirmed a seven-day suspension of water supply under the Surya Yojana scheme. The shutdown, scheduled from April 4 to April 10, is being carried out to complete technical work tied to the project’s second phase. The disruption is set to hit several pockets of the city hard, with daily water availability taking a significant hit.

A 150 Million Litre Daily Gap

The Vasai Virar municipal corporation currently depends on roughly 400 million litres of water every day to meet civic demand. During the shutdown window, supply from one of its primary sources will be entirely cut off, creating a daily shortfall of nearly 150 million litres. Officials have cautioned that residents should expect low water pressure and irregular supply across multiple zones. To prevent a complete breakdown in distribution, the civic body will shift to a zonal rotation system for the duration.

The municipal corporation has asked residents to stock up on water ahead of their area’s scheduled cut and to use stored water carefully throughout the period. Civic authorities have also called for public cooperation and urged citizens to avoid wastage. Officials assured that supply will return to normal once the technical work wraps up, adding that steps are being taken to keep the disruption to a minimum.
