Twist in Saif Ali Khan Stabbing Case: Accused Shariful Islam’s Fingerprints Not Found In His Mumbai Flat

Chargesheet reveals mismatch in fingerprints, casting doubt on accused's role in the actor's stabbing incident

In a surprising development in the stabbing incident involving Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, Mumbai Police’s recent chargesheet revealed that fingerprints collected from the actor’s residence in Bandra do not match those of the primary accused, Shariful Islam.

According to investigative details, approximately 20 fingerprint samples obtained from various areas inside Saif’s apartment and the surrounding building were analyzed by the state CID’s Fingerprint Bureau. Out of these, 19 did not correspond to Shariful. The only matching print associated with Shariful was found on the eighth floor of the building, separate from the actor’s flat.

Further details in the chargesheet noted specifically that fingerprints retrieved from crucial spots inside the flat, including the bedroom, bathroom, and cupboard doors, were not linked to Shariful Islam.

Despite these findings, Mumbai Police clarified that fingerprint evidence alone is not considered conclusive, as the likelihood of coincidental matches due to multiple individuals handling the same object can be relatively high, approximately one in a thousand.

Last week, Mumbai Police submitted a comprehensive chargesheet spanning over 1000 pages. The document contained detailed forensic evidence such as fingerprint analysis, facial recognition data, and other pertinent investigative information, confirming that Shariful is indeed a Bangladeshi national.

The incident took place in January this year when Saif Ali Khan’s home was allegedly targeted in what authorities believe was a failed robbery attempt. Reports stated that Shariful inadvertently entered the celebrity’s residence, unaware of its occupants. In a dramatic escalation, Shariful allegedly took Saif and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s youngest son, Jeh, hostage. As Saif attempted to intervene, he was stabbed in the back. Shariful fled immediately after the attack, leaving Saif seriously injured and requiring hospitalization with a knife fragment embedded in his back.
