11-Year-Old Killed After Tree Falls On School Bus In Chembur; 4 Injured

In Mumbai’s Chembur area, a big tree fell onto a school bus on Tuesday afternoon, killing an 11-year-old boy and injuring four other kids.

Twelve children were in the car when the tragedy happened on Chembur’s Road No. 11. Before the Mumbai Fire Brigade got on the site, the youngsters were quickly rescued from the wreckage thanks to the bus conductor’s and the locals’ prompt response.

Five pupils in all were sent to the adjacent Zen Hospital for emergency medical attention. Sadly, 11-year-old Vihan Shrivastav was pronounced deceased after suffering life-threatening injuries from the accident. The four other youngsters who were hurt had minor injuries and are now in stable condition, according to the Zen Hospital’s on-duty medical officer.

“This was painful,” Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde said, meeting with the families of the victims at Zen Hospital. As a mother, I came here. The parents couldn’t say anything. Twelve of the thirteen children on the Universal School bus are safe, but one sadly passed away,” she stated.

“Locals told me that they had complained about unsafe trees, despite the BMC’s declaration that every tree on the road had been trimmed. We will investigate if there was no activity. We want an audit of every aged tree. The trees were pruned, as far as we know, but a comprehensive check is required. We’ve made this demand several times,” she continued.

“We won’t attempt to protect the administration. We’ll all investigate this; there’s no room for justifications. The harshest measures will be implemented if we discover that the complaints were ignored,” Tawde stated.

Residents claimed that after the occurrence, they had written to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) several times asking for the trees to be cut down or removed, pointing out that the region had previously had a similar catastrophe. There were several warnings, yet nothing was done.

Mumbai and its suburbs are expected to see strong showers and thunderstorms today, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
