Mumbai Rains: Andheri Subway Shut, Trains Run Late

Mumbai faced disruptions on Thursday due to persistent heavy rainfall, with the Andheri subway closed because of flooding, as reported by ANI. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for the city, forecasting moderate to heavy rain with isolated thunderstorms in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Thane. Palghar district, meanwhile, is under a yellow alert.
Local train services, vital to the city’s daily commute, experienced delays of 15 to 20 minutes, particularly on the Central and Harbour lines, according to commuter updates on the m-Indicator app. Despite these disruptions, no major waterlogging was reported across Mumbai, offering some relief to residents. The IMD noted that a high tide of approximately 4.5 meters is expected in the late afternoon, which could exacerbate flooding in low-lying areas if heavy rain persists.

Mumbai Traffic Police diverted vehicles from the Andheri subway to Gokhale Bridge and Thackeray Bridge due to 1 to 1.5 feet of water accumulation. Authorities urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and stay updated on traffic and rail announcements. Airlines, including IndiGo, issued advisories for passengers to account for potential delays caused by slow-moving traffic around the airport. The IMD’s nowcast warning at 7:20 AM predicted moderate rain in isolated areas of Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar over the next few hours, advising caution.
