Mumbai Braces for Heavy Rainfall as Monsoon Intensifies

Mumbai — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast intermittent moderate to heavy rainfall across Mumbai and its suburbs for Friday, June 27, 2025, as the southwest monsoon continues to influence the region. According to the IMD’s latest weather bulletin, the city is likely to experience cloudy skies with periods of intense showers throughout the day.
The IMD’s Mumbai observatory at Colaba recorded 22 mm of rainfall, while the Santacruz station reported 17 mm in the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 AM on Thursday. The department anticipates a high tide of 4.28 meters at 2:15 PM today, which could exacerbate waterlogging in low-lying areas if heavy rains coincide with the tidal surge.
Civic authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, particularly in flood-prone zones, and to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy downpours. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has deployed teams to monitor drainage systems and respond to potential waterlogging incidents. Local trains, a lifeline for Mumbai’s commuters, are expected to operate normally unless rainfall intensifies significantly.

The IMD has also noted that the monsoon trough remains active, contributing to the likelihood of continued showers over the next 24 hours. Residents are urged to stay updated with IMD advisories and exercise caution during outdoor activities.
