Mumbai Braces for Heavy Rain and High Tides, IMD Issues Yellow Alert

Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, forecasting heavy rainfall in isolated areas of the city and its suburbs today. According to an official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the city is expected to experience cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rain throughout the day, accompanied by occasional gusty winds.

The IMD has also warned of high tides, with a 3.78-meter tide expected at 10:03 AM and a 3.23-meter tide at 9:35 PM in the Arabian Sea. These conditions could exacerbate waterlogging in low-lying areas, prompting authorities to urge residents to exercise caution.

The BMC official noted that the city recorded an average of 31 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8:00 AM on Sunday, with the eastern suburbs receiving 21 mm and the western suburbs 20 mm. The IMD has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the Arabian Sea along the Konkan coast until June 25 due to squally weather, with wind speeds expected to reach 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph.
