Mumbai Braces for High Tides, Vidarbha Faces Yellow Alert for Heavy Rain

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several districts in Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall over the next two days, starting September 7, 2025. The alert covers areas such as Nagpur, Amravati, and Wardha, where thunderstorms and lightning are also expected at isolated locations. According to the Regional Meteorological Center, Mumbai, these weather conditions are driven by a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, which is likely to intensify into a low-pressure system, bringing significant rainfall to the region.

In Mumbai, the IMD has warned of high tides along the coast, urging residents to exercise caution in low-lying areas prone to flooding. On September 7, a high tide of 4.36 meters is expected at 2:36 PM, followed by another at 3:08 AM on September 8, reaching 3.92 meters. Low tides are predicted at 8:46 AM and 9:15 PM on September 7, with water levels dropping to 1.31 meters and 1.42 meters, respectively. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has advised citizens to stay updated on weather alerts and avoid coastal areas during high tide periods to ensure safety.

The IMD’s bulletin, as reported by Lokmat Times, indicates that while the monsoon remains active, its intensity is expected to decrease gradually after September 8. Mumbai is likely to experience lighter showers and partly cloudy skies in the coming days, with temperatures ranging between 24°C and 32°C. Authorities have emphasized the need for vigilance, particularly in areas susceptible to waterlogging, as the city navigates the final phase of the monsoon season. The Regional Meteorological Center, Mumbai, continues to monitor weather patterns and provide real-time updates to help residents prepare for potential disruptions caused by rain and tidal activity.
