Mumbai Braces for Light to Moderate Rainfall, IMD Issues Yellow Alert

Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thundershowers for Mumbai and its neighboring districts, including Thane, Palghar, and Raigad, on Monday. A yellow alert remains in effect for these areas until May 22, signaling potential lightning, thunderstorms, and moderate rain.

The IMD predicts cloudy skies with occasional light showers throughout the day in Mumbai, providing some relief from recent humid conditions. Temperatures are expected to range between 27°C and 33°C. Ratnagiri, a coastal district, faces a higher risk, with heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 50-60 kmph expected on May 21 and 22.

Other parts of Maharashtra, such as Kolhapur, Satara, Pune, Ahilyanagar, and Nashik, are also likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rain with winds reaching 50-60 kmph on Monday. The South Konkan-Goa and Marathwada regions may see similar conditions, with thunderstorms, heavy rain, and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph, as reported by the Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai.

The IMD notes that these weather patterns are part of pre-monsoon showers affecting Mumbai and surrounding areas. Residents are advised to stay cautious, particularly in regions prone to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, as the weather could disrupt daily activities over the next few days.
