Mumbai Braces for Heavy Rainfall Amid Cloudy Skies Today

Mumbai — The city is set for a day of overcast skies and significant rainfall, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy showers across Mumbai and its suburbs. As of 9 AM, the temperature hovers at 29°C, accompanied by high humidity at 84% and winds blowing at 13 km/h. The IMD has warned of gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph, along with potential lightning, particularly impacting the Konkan coast.
The persistent cloud cover and precipitation are expected to maintain a humid atmosphere throughout the week, with minimal temperature fluctuations. Daytime temperatures will likely remain around 28-29°C, dropping slightly to 27-28°C at night. Light rain is forecast to continue from Thursday through the following Wednesday, reflecting Mumbai’s typical tropical climate.
The IMD attributes the intense rainfall to a low-pressure system over Madhya Pradesh, which is increasing wind speeds along the coast and at sea. This weather pattern is affecting not only Mumbai but also nearby areas such as Thane, Navi Mumbai, Palghar, and Kalyan-Dombivli, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated. Authorities have issued alerts urging residents to stay vigilant due to the risk of extremely heavy rains within the next 24 hours.

The cloudy conditions have persisted since early morning, with the IMD emphasizing the need for preparedness across the region. The combination of heavy rainfall and gusty winds could lead to disruptions, particularly in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging.
