Mumbai Braces for Persistent Heat and Humidity

Swelteringly uncomfortable weather is set to persist in Mumbai, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting hot and humid conditions for the next few days. According to the IMD, daytime temperatures are expected to hover around 33°C, while nights will remain warm at approximately 25°C. The relative humidity, peaking at 85%, is likely to exacerbate discomfort for residents.

The IMD’s Mumbai centre reported that the city’s maximum temperature on Monday reached 33.4°C, slightly above the seasonal average, with a minimum of 24.8°C. Colaba recorded a high of 33°C and a low of 25.6°C, while Santacruz saw a maximum of 34.2°C and a minimum of 24°C. These temperatures align with the IMD’s predictions for continued warmth, driven by moist winds from the Arabian Sea.

Despite the challenging weather, Mumbai’s air quality remains a silver lining. The Central Pollution Control Board’s SAMEER app reported an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 76, classified as ‘good,’ ensuring that air pollution poses no immediate concern for the city’s inhabitants.

The IMD anticipates partly cloudy skies over the next 24 hours, with no significant respite from the heat. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take precautions during peak daytime hours to cope with the persistent humid conditions.
