Mumbai Braces for Week of Rain as IMD Issues Alerts

Mumbai, June 11, 2025 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a week of cloudy skies and varying rainfall across Mumbai, with light to heavy showers expected to persist. The city, known for its vibrant energy, woke to light drizzle and overcast conditions on Wednesday, setting the tone for the days ahead.

According to the IMD’s latest bulletin, Mumbai and its suburbs will experience partly cloudy skies interspersed with light to moderate rain and occasional thunderstorms. On June 11, temperatures hovered at 29°C with 74% humidity, a 5% chance of precipitation, and winds blowing at 18 km/h as of 9 a.m. The forecast predicts temperatures ranging between 27°C and 33°C, with one or two episodes of rain or thundershowers likely throughout the day.

Looking ahead to June 12, the IMD anticipates similar conditions, with partly cloudy skies and a few instances of rain or thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to fluctuate between 27°C and 32°C. The department has issued an orange alert for several Maharashtra districts, including Nanded, Wardha, Gondia, Bhandara, and Chandrapur, signaling the potential for heavy rainfall. A yellow alert covers Ahilyanagar, Jalna, Beed, Dharashiv, Latur, Parbhani, Hingoli, Yavatmal, Amaravati, Nagpur, and Gadchiroli, while other areas remain under a green alert, indicating no immediate weather concerns.

The Free Press Journal reported that Mumbai’s early June weather has been marked by warm temperatures and cloudy skies, with light rainfall in some areas since Wednesday morning. The IMD’s predictions suggest residents should prepare for intermittent showers and possible disruptions due to thunderstorms throughout the week.
