Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh weather warnings for several parts of Maharashtra, predicting widespread thunderstorms, rainfall, and strong gusty winds over the coming days. According to the latest district forecast from the IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai, significant pre-monsoon activity is expected across the state from June 1 to June 4, with all outlooks classified as “very likely.”
Mumbai and Thane districts are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, along with light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph at isolated locations. Following a spell of hot and humid conditions on May 31, the financial capital and its neighbouring areas can expect thundershowers, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.
Coastal districts such as Palghar and Raigad may witness more intense conditions on June 2, with moderate rainfall and stronger gusts of 40-50 kmph. These regions are set to see heightened thunderstorm activity compared to Mumbai and Thane.
In Pune district, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are forecast from May 31 onwards. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are expected at isolated places between June 1 and June 3. Similar weather patterns, including moderate rainfall, are anticipated over the Pune Ghats in the coming days.

Several districts in the Vidarbha region, including Nagpur, Akola, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli, are under heightened alert. On June 1, these areas could see thunderstorms with lightning and hailstorms, along with strong gusty winds of 50-60 kmph at isolated spots. The IMD has cautioned that such conditions may cause damage to weak structures and standing crops.
The weather agency has issued safety guidelines for residents. People are advised to avoid venturing into open fields or working outdoors during thunderstorms. Authorities recommend staying away from tall trees and structures, unplugging electrical appliances, avoiding water bodies during lightning, and keeping livestock indoors when severe weather is imminent.
This pre-monsoon spell brings a shift from the recent hot and humid conditions, offering some relief even as it demands caution from the public.
