Mumbai Actress Sumona Chakravarti Feels Unsafe as Maratha Protesters Mob Car

Mumbai – Actress Sumona Chakravarti, known for her role on The Kapil Sharma Show, shared a troubling experience on Instagram after her car was surrounded by Maratha quota protesters in South Mumbai. The incident, which occurred in broad daylight on Sunday, left the actress feeling vulnerable and questioning the city’s law and order.
While driving from Colaba to Fort around 12:30 PM, Chakravarti’s vehicle was blocked by a group of demonstrators. She described one individual banging on her car’s bonnet while others struck the windows, shouting “Jai Maharashtra” and laughing. The same ordeal repeated minutes later. Chakravarti noted the absence of police intervention, observing officers nearby who appeared disengaged, merely chatting among themselves.
In her post, Chakravarti expressed dismay at the littered streets, strewn with banana peels and plastic bottles, and the protesters’ behavior, which included eating, sleeping, and filming social media reels on the pavements. She called the scene a “mockery of civic sense,” highlighting the disruption caused by the ongoing Maratha quota agitation led by activist Manoj Jarange Patil at Azad Maidan.

The protests, now in their third day, demand a 10% reservation for the Maratha community under the OBC category. Chakravarti, a longtime Mumbai resident, said this was the first time she felt unsafe in the city, particularly relieved to have a male friend with her during the incident. She considered recording the event but refrained, fearing it might escalate tensions.
The actress’s account has sparked discussions about public safety and civic responsibility in Mumbai, with many echoing her concerns about the lack of police action. As reported, the protests have caused significant traffic disruptions, leaving commuters and residents frustrated. Chakravarti’s post concluded with a call for better governance, emphasizing that Mumbai’s citizens deserve a safer, more orderly environment.
