A fire broke out on a temporary set of the film Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi, at Mumbai’s Film City on Monday.
Thick smoke was seen rising from the location in Goregaon East, and videos of the incident circulated widely on social media. The Mumbai Fire Brigade confirmed that no one was injured.
According to officials, a Level-I fire was reported at 4.02 pm behind Reliance Media Works and Prime Focus. The blaze was confined to electric wiring, cables, fittings, doors, wooden planks, air-conditioning units, bamboo, plastic items, sound systems and shooting equipment inside a PCR unit on a 100×20-foot temporary set behind Prime Focus Studio. The fire was brought under control by 4.55 pm.
Fire brigade personnel, police, civic ward control teams and ambulance services reached the site promptly.
The incident also disrupted nearby shoots of the television shows Hustle 5 and Pati Patni Aur Panga 2. Preliminary accounts indicated that the fire may have originated on one of the adjacent sets before affecting the Ramayana temporary structure. The extent of damage to the other productions has not been officially detailed.
Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is scheduled for release in two parts, with the first part expected in theatres this Diwali and the second the following year.
