Racket Busted : Mumbai Police Seizes Over Rs 36 Cr Worth Of Heroin, Nine Including Three Women Held
Mumbai : Police in Mumbai have busted a major drug smuggling and trafficking racket, arresting nine people and seizing over 8.8 kilograms of heroin valued at more than Rs 36.55 crore. The operation began on December 16, when police conducted surveillance between 2:30 am and 6:30 pm. Two men — Jalaram Natwar Thakkar (37) and Wasim Mazruddin Syed (27) — were caught with 326.22 grams of heroin worth approximately Rs 1.30 crore, allegedly meant for trafficking and sale.
A case was registered against them under Sections 8(a), 21(a) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Police also seized additional properties, taking the total seizure at that stage to around Rs 1.47 crore. Investigators traced the source of the seized narcotics and arrested a woman, Rubina Mohammad Sayyed Khan (30). Further probe revealed that the heroin belonged to another woman, Shabnam Sheikh, who was absconding.
As the investigation widened, police uncovered a larger trafficking network involving multiple suppliers and couriers. Another woman, Muskan Samrul Sheikh (19), who allegedly supplied drugs to Shabnam Sheikh, was traced using technical inputs and undercover informants and arrested from the Masjid Bandar area. Muskan disclosed the identity of her supplier, claiming that a person named Meherban Ali was supplying heroin and was expected to deliver a consignment on December 24.
Acting on this information, police laid a trap in the Masjid Bandar area and detained a man who arrived to deliver the drugs. He was identified as Abdul Qadir Sheikh. A search conducted and a forensic team led to the seizure of heroin worth Rs 1.38 crore from his possession. Abdul Qadir told investigators that the consignment had been sent by Meherban Ali. Based on inputs, a raid was conducted at premises in Anand Nagar in Mumbai. During the search, three men — Nawajis Ghalib Khan, Sarik Mohammad Salim Salmani and Samad Ghalib Khan — were found packing paper bags containing heroin.
