Oops! Mumbai University Misspells Its Own Name on Convocation Certificates for 2023-24 Batch!

Mumbai : Mumbai university has caused problem for its own self after it inadvertently misspelled its own name on the graduation certificates for the batch of 2023-2024. The convocation ceremony, which was held on 7th January saw around 1.64 lakh students graduate this year. These newly issued convocation certificates referred to the institution as the misspelled name” University of Mumabai” leading outrageous embarrassment and concern among the students and the faculties.
This isn’t the first time Mumbai University has faced criticism because of mistakes relate to the graduate certificates. The Mumbai university previously has also been criticised due to the printing phase and the quality assurance measures. Many graduates have already started using the misspelled degrees for job applications or university admissions, potentially unaware of the blunder caused by the university. The responsibility for the printing error has been conveyed to the Hyderabad based company hired by Mumbai University for the task. They have also stated the rectified certificates will be dispatched to the colleges yet to receive the certificates, which somewhere gave a sigh of relief to the concerned faculty members and the students. Similarly , some principals and deans of the colleges have indicated that the number of mistakes has decreased thanks to the more stringent verification processes held by the university .
Considering this, the students and the educators alike will need to keep the pressure on the Mumbai University to follow through and rectify the problem as soon as possible . Degrees awarded with errors cast doubt om the professionalism of the institution and its commitment to quality education. Former Education Minister of Maharashtra , Varsha Gaikwad had also tweeted about the blunder caused by the Mumbai University, stating it as ” This is not just an embarrassment but now all these degree certificates will have to be reprinted, which could mean several months delay for students wanting to pursue further qualifications! The Mumbai University must issue a public apology to all the students and the Minister of Higher & Technical education ( tagging @ChDadaPatil)ji must take University officials to task and ensure the certificates are reissued within this month. Completely irresponsible, unprofessional behaviours from the university responsible officials must be penalised.’ Gaikwad also tagged the official account of the national student union of India.
