Mumbai: Heavy rain continued to disrupt life and traffic across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai on Wednesday, and amid the downpour, a serious incident was reported from Nerul. Two college girls reportedly suffered an electric shock after rainwater became electrified following a suspected short circuit near LP Bridge. The girls collapsed on the flooded road before a bystander rescued them; both were rushed to DY Patil Hospital for treatment. Further details on their condition were awaited. The incident has triggered panic among local residents.

Short circuit allegedly electrified rainwater

According to initial information, a short circuit occurred in a wire near Bikaner Sweets under the LP Bridge in Nerul. As rainwater collected on the road, the current allegedly spread through the standing water. The two college girls, who were passing through the area, reportedly came into contact with the electrified water and suffered a shock.

Rescue caught on camera

Videos from the spot show the two girls lying on the flooded road as heavy rain continued to fall. A bystander used a tree branch to pull them clear of the electrified water. Several vehicles were seen stranded nearby while the rescue was underway. The girls were taken to DY Patil Hospital in an autorickshaw for urgent treatment.

Rain disrupts Navi Mumbai

Heavy rainfall also caused waterlogging at several other locations across Navi Mumbai. Parts of the Sion-Panvel Highway were submerged, slowing traffic on the busy route connecting Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Flooding was also reported at Vashi’s APMC Market, where workers were seen wading through knee-deep water while trying to move perishable stock away from the rising water.
