Mumbra Train Tragedy Death Toll Climbs to Five

Thane : The death toll from the tragic Mumbra train accident on June 9 has risen to five after Anil More, a 51-year-old resident of Shahpur, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday at a private hospital in Thane. More was among the 14 passengers who fell from a Kasara-CSMT local train when it collided with another train traveling in the opposite direction near Mumbra station.
The incident occurred when passengers standing on the footboards of the overcrowded trains collided as the trains passed each other on the Mumbra-Diva curve, a known accident-prone area. More, who was traveling to Kalwa for work, sustained severe injuries in the crash. The Thane tehsildar, Umesh Patil, confirmed More’s death at approximately 11 a.m. on Thursday.

Authorities from the railway and police are continuing their investigation into the accident’s cause, while families of the victims have urged officials to bolster safety measures, particularly at high-risk locations like the Mumbra-Diva curve. The call for improved safety protocols highlights ongoing concerns about commuter safety on Mumbai’s busy suburban rail network.
