Mega Block: Mumbai’s Western Railway to Upgrade 100 Local Trains to 15-Car by Year-End

Mumbai: Western Railway plans to transform approximately 100 of its 12-car local train services into 15-car trains by the end of 2025, promising more space and comfort for daily commuters.
A senior Western Railway official, quoted by Mumbai Mirror, said the upgrade will ease overcrowding and improve the travel experience, especially during peak hours when passengers often face cramped conditions. “Western Railway is committed to enhancing services by increasing capacity, improving infrastructure, and adopting cutting-edge technology,” the official added, per the report.

The railway introduced 15-car services on the slow line between Andheri and Virar on June 28, 2021. Currently, it operates around 1,250 daily local train services, with 79 running as 15-car trains and the rest as 12-car trains.
Central Railway Schedules Sunday Mega Block
Central Railway has announced a mega block on Sunday, April 6, impacting several local train services. Down slow line trains leaving CSMT Mumbai between 10:14 a.m. and 3:52 p.m. will be rerouted to the Down fast line from Matunga to Mulund, stopping at Sion, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Bhandup, and Mulund. These trains will then switch back to the Down slow line at Mulund and arrive 15 minutes late. Similarly, Up slow line services departing Thane from 11:07 a.m. to 3:51 p.m. will shift to the Up fast line between Mulund and Matunga, with stops at Mulund, Bhandup, Vikhroli, Ghatkopar, Kurla, and Sion, before returning to the Up slow line at Matunga, also arriving 15 minutes behind schedule.
