Mumbai Weather Update: Rain and Thunderstorms Likely in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar; IMD Issues Yellow Alert

Mumbai: Residents of Mumbai and neighbouring districts can expect wet weather conditions as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain accompanied by thunderstorms in several parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. A yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar, indicating the possibility of adverse weather conditions during the day.

According to the weather department, pre-monsoon activity is likely to intensify, bringing spells of rainfall along with thunder and lightning in isolated locations.

Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Expected

The IMD has predicted cloudy skies with intermittent rain across Mumbai and adjoining districts. Thunderstorm activity may be accompanied by gusty winds, which could temporarily affect normal outdoor activities.

Weather officials have advised residents to remain cautious, especially during periods of lightning and strong winds. Commuters and those travelling outdoors have also been urged to stay updated with the latest weather advisories.

Relief From Heat and Humidity

The expected rainfall is likely to provide relief from the hot and humid conditions that have persisted across Mumbai and surrounding areas in recent weeks. Pre-monsoon showers have already begun appearing in parts of the region, signalling the gradual advance of the southwest monsoon.

Yellow Alert Remains in Effect

A yellow alert signifies the possibility of weather conditions that may cause minor disruptions. While widespread severe impacts are not anticipated, authorities have advised people to exercise caution and monitor official weather updates.

The IMD continues to track evolving weather patterns across Maharashtra, with rain activity expected to continue in parts of Mumbai, Thane and Palghar over the coming days.

The IMD forecast of thunderstorms, lightning, light-to-moderate rainfall and gusty winds over Mumbai and nearby districts is consistent with recent weather advisories issued for June 1–2.
