Mumbai Weather Today: High Humidity And Rising Heatwave Conditions In Maharashtra

Mumbai: Mumbai and large parts of Maharashtra are bracing for increasingly uncomfortable weather as temperatures climb and humidity levels rise across the state.

After a brief period of relief from unseasonal rains, maximum temperatures have surged again in several regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that heatwave conditions have intensified, particularly in Vidarbha and Marathwada, while many areas recorded readings well above seasonal norms on Sunday.

In Vidarbha, Akola posted the highest temperature at 43.1°C, which was 2.4°C above normal. Other notable readings included Amravati at 42.4°C, Wardha at 42°C, Washim at 41.6°C, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli at 41°C each. In Marathwada, Parbhani reached 41.7°C and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar recorded 40.4°C. Several places in Madhya Maharashtra, including Jalgaon, Malegaon, Sangli, Solapur and Jeur, also touched 41°C.

The IMD has forecast a further rise in temperatures by 2-3°C across Maharashtra over the next five days. A heatwave system has developed over northwest India at an altitude of about 12.2 km. Meanwhile, a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the Himalayan region around April 15.

In the coastal Konkan region, including Mumbai, Thane, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, minimum temperatures are hovering between 24°C and 26°C, with daytime highs expected between 32°C and 34°C. On Monday, Mumbai recorded around 28°C in the morning, with the maximum likely to stay near 30°C and the minimum close to 28°C.

The combination of heat and high humidity is making conditions feel more oppressive, especially during afternoon hours. Mumbai’s air quality has also deteriorated to the ‘poor’ category with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 154, PM2.5 at 154 and PM10 at 133.

According to a report in Loksatta, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for Sangli and Solapur districts for hot and humid conditions over the next 72 hours. Authorities have urged residents to limit outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours and step out only when necessary. Parts of Madhya Maharashtra, including Pune, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur and Solapur, may see light morning drizzle in the coming days, though temperatures are expected to rise sharply later.

The seven-day forecast for Mumbai, as reported by TV9 Marathi, shows maximum temperatures of 30°C, 33°C, 32°C, 31°C, 32°C, 33°C and 32°C respectively.
