Mumbai Braces for Wet Weekend: Cloudy Skies and Showers Persist

Mumbai residents are facing another spell of overcast conditions and potential rainfall as the weekend approaches, with meteorologists forecasting continued cloudy weather and scattered showers across the city and its suburbs.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the metropolis woke up to a minimum temperature of 25.8 degrees Celsius on Friday morning, slightly above the seasonal average. Humidity levels stood at a muggy 85 percent, contributing to the discomfort. The IMD has predicted partly cloudy skies throughout the day, with the possibility of light to moderate rain or thundershowers in isolated areas of Mumbai and neighboring regions.
Daytime temperatures are expected to peak at around 32 degrees Celsius, offering little respite from the humid conditions. The ongoing weather pattern is attributed to a low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea, which is channeling moisture-laden winds toward the Maharashtra coast.

Commuters and outdoor planners should prepare for disruptions, as similar conditions are likely to extend into Saturday and Sunday. The IMD warns of thunderous activity in some pockets, potentially leading to brief heavy downpours that could affect traffic and low-lying areas prone to waterlogging.
This spell comes amid the retreating southwest monsoon, which has already delivered above-average rainfall to Mumbai this season. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai noted that while widespread heavy rain is not anticipated, the intermittent showers could provide temporary cooling but also pose challenges for weekend activities.
Air quality remained in the moderate category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 78 as per the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR). No significant pollution spikes are expected due to the prevailing winds and rain.
