Mumbai Braces for Cloudy Skies and Scattered Showers as AQI Holds Steady in Moderate Range

Mumbai residents can expect overcast conditions with chances of light rainfall on Thursday, according to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The regional meteorological center in Mumbai has predicted a generally cloudy sky throughout the day, accompanied by the possibility of light rain or drizzle in the city and its suburbs. Temperatures are set to remain comfortable, with the maximum reaching around 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum hovering near 25 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels are anticipated to stay high at approximately 70 percent, contributing to a muggy atmosphere.
The IMD also noted light rain or thundershowers toward the evening or night in isolated areas. Winds from the west to northwest are expected to blow at speeds of 10-15 kmph during the day, shifting slightly in direction overnight.

Air quality in the city continues to fall within the ‘moderate’ category, as reported by the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR). As of 4 p.m. on Wednesday, the Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 152, indicating acceptable levels but with potential moderate health concerns for sensitive individuals if exposure is prolonged.
For context, SAFAR explains that an AQI between 0-50 is considered ‘good,’ 51-100 ‘satisfactory,’ 101-200 ‘moderate,’ 201-300 ‘poor,’ 301-400 ‘very poor,’ and above 400 ‘severe.’
The forecast aligns with recent weather patterns, where Mumbai has experienced intermittent showers amid the retreating monsoon influence. Commuters are advised to carry umbrellas or raincoats, as sudden drizzles could disrupt outdoor activities.
This update comes from the IMD’s daily bulletin, emphasizing the need for residents to stay prepared for variable conditions. No severe weather alerts have been issued for the region at this time.
