Mumbai residents, who have endured scorching temperatures since March through April and persistent humidity into early May, may soon experience some relief. According to reports, the intense heat is set to ease starting Tuesday owing to evolving weather dynamics across the region.
While parts of Maharashtra are poised for a drop in temperatures, the Vidarbha region is expected to continue facing high heat levels throughout the week. The remainder of the state, however, is likely to get a break from the oppressive conditions.
Weather expert indicated that the easterly hot winds, which have dominated recently, will weaken. Sea breezes are anticipated to establish themselves more firmly, limiting further heating. Additionally, westerly winds associated with the advancing monsoon are projected to strengthen in the coming days, contributing to a noticeable decline in temperatures. A heatwave alert remains in place for the Vidarbha districts of Wardha and Yavatmal on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In Mumbai, the maximum temperature, currently hovering between 36°C and 38°C, is forecast to fall to around 32°C. Similarly, temperatures in Central Maharashtra, which have exceeded 40°C, are expected to dip below 38°C. Vidarbha will stay notably warmer by comparison. Humidity in the financial capital is unlikely to reduce significantly, meaning residents will still face muggy and uncomfortable conditions despite the lower readings.
The southwest monsoon has already made its presence felt in the Andaman Islands. It is expected to advance to Kerala by approximately May 26. From there, it is likely to reach the southern parts of the Konkan region by May 30, with arrival in Mumbai projected during the first week of June.
