Mumbai Weather: IMD Forecast Signals Rising Temperatures

Mumbai is set to experience a week dominated by heat and humidity, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting persistently warm conditions across the city, according to a report. The seven-day outlook indicates that while temperatures may not reach extreme heatwave thresholds seen in other parts of Maharashtra, discomfort levels are expected to remain high due to elevated humidity.

As per IMD projections , daytime temperatures in Mumbai are likely to hover in the low-to-mid 30s Celsius through the week, with little variation. Nighttime temperatures are also expected to stay relatively warm, offering limited respite. The combination of heat and moisture in the air is likely to make conditions feel more oppressive than the actual temperature readings suggest.

The IMD has already issued a yellow alert for hot and humid weather in Mumbai and surrounding regions, warning residents to remain cautious. Weather experts attribute these conditions to delayed sea breeze activity and prevailing atmospheric patterns, which are restricting natural cooling mechanisms typically experienced along the coast.

Despite the overall dry trend, there is a possibility of brief changes in weather patterns later in the week. Forecasts indicate that light rainfall or isolated thunderstorms could occur in some areas, potentially bringing short-lived relief from the heat. Similar IMD predictions have suggested that such intermittent showers may help lower temperatures slightly, though no significant or sustained cooling is expected.

Meanwhile, other parts of Maharashtra, particularly interior regions, are facing far more intense conditions, with temperatures crossing 40 degrees Celsius and heatwave alerts in place. In contrast, Mumbai’s coastal location is moderating extreme spikes but contributing to high humidity levels

Authorities continue to advise residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and take necessary precautions, especially during peak afternoon hours. Vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly, are urged to be particularly careful.

Overall, the week ahead for Mumbai is expected to remain consistently warm and humid, with only marginal and temporary relief likely toward the latter half.
