Mumbai Braces for Wet Week as IMD Forecasts Above-Normal June Rainfall

Mumbai: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted light to moderate rainfall across Mumbai and its metropolitan areas this week, following an early monsoon onset on May 26. According to the IMD’s 48-hour local weather outlook, the city and its suburbs can expect partly cloudy skies with occasional light rain or thundershowers, accompanied by gusty winds. Temperatures are projected to hover around a maximum of 33°C and a minimum of 26°C.
On Sunday, isolated parts of Mumbai experienced brief but heavy rainfall, with suburban areas seeing more showers than the city center. Data from the disaster management department reported significant rainfall in the last 24 hours, with Mankhurd recording 27 mm, Vikhroli 18 mm, Mulund Check Naka 20 mm, Ghatkopar Ramabai Nagar 20 mm, BKC 19 mm, Kurla 19 mm, Bandra 16 mm, and Juhu 13 mm. The IMD’s district weather forecast for June 1 to June 5 indicates no warnings for Mumbai, Thane, or Palghar, though a yellow alert has been issued for Thane on June 5.
The IMD’s broader outlook for June 2025 predicts above-normal rainfall across Maharashtra’s Konkan region, including Mumbai, as well as Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha. The agency estimates that the southwest monsoon’s seasonal rainfall across India will reach 106% of the Long Period Average, with a model error of ±4%, signaling a wetter-than-usual season nationwide.
