Mumbai’s Weather: Air Quality Holds Steady In Moderate Zone Amid Hazy Mornings

Mumbai residents greeted Tuesday, February 3, 2026, with a chilly and hazy start as a layer of smog continued to envelop large swathes of the city. The conditions have renewed attention on the ongoing challenges with air pollution that have marked the winter season.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast mostly clear skies for the rest of the day, with daytime temperatures expected to range from 23 degrees Celsius to 32 degrees Celsius. Recent days have seen relatively stable temperatures, but air quality fluctuations persist, prompting worries about potential health impacts for the population.

Monitoring data from the app showed Mumbai’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) at 137 on Monday morning, classifying it as ‘moderate’. Pollution concentrations differed markedly across neighborhoods: Bandra Kurla Complex recorded 136, Borivali East 130, Byculla 157, Andheri East 185, Chembur 118, Colaba 128, Deonar 147, Ghatkopar 158, Kandivali East 125, Malad West 122, Mazgaon 133, and Mulund West 131.

By Tuesday morning, the city’s AQI had edged up slightly to 141, still within the ‘moderate’ range and showing minimal shift from the prior day.

Authorities indicated that PM10 continues to be the primary pollutant, largely attributed to dust from ongoing construction activities and emissions from vehicles, which remain key contributors to the city’s air quality issues.

The lingering smog and moderate pollution levels underscore the broader seasonal pattern affecting Mumbai, where such conditions have become recurrent since winter began. Residents, particularly those with respiratory sensitivities, are advised to remain cautious during these hazy periods.
