Mumbai weather: Why Winter Feels Far Away as November Rains Linger

Mumbai greeted Sunday with overcast skies and scattered light rain, extending unseasonal downpours that started in late October well into the new month. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts light to moderate showers persisting throughout the day across the city and nearby districts.
Neighborhoods including Dadar, Bandra, Andheri, and Powai experienced intermittent drizzles from the early hours, under a persistent cloud blanket. Daytime highs are projected near 31 degrees Celsius. Elevated humidity, amplified by the moisture, has left the air feeling muggy and oppressive, despite the cooler droplets.
Meteorologists link the activity to lingering post-monsoon vapors, where dense clouds and trapped moisture are blocking any significant temperature drop.
The wet pattern has spread to adjacent areas. In Thane and Navi Mumbai, brief rain bursts hit spots like Ghodbunder, Airoli, Nerul, and Vashi since dawn. The IMD warns of possible isolated thunder or lightning as coastal systems linger. Minor water accumulation appeared in low-lying zones of Thane and Kopar Khairane, but roads stayed mostly clear, and commuters faced minimal delays. Residents say the ongoing drizzle has heightened stickiness, pushing back the crisp hints of winter typically felt by now.

Farther along the coast, Palghar district anticipates afternoon showers amid unbroken clouds, with rural roads potentially slick. The broader Konkan region encompassing Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg faces mild to moderate rain all day. The IMD has cautioned fishermen to avoid deep-sea ventures, citing risks from gusty winds along the shoreline.
Experts blame moisture buildup and a trough over the Arabian Sea for the prolonged spells. Clearance is expected by midweek, paving the way for cooler nights and classic November weather. For now, Mumbai and its suburbs remain under humid, cloudy skies dotted with passing showers.
