Mumbai weather: IMD Flags Yellow Alert for 20 Districts Amid Stormy Skies
MUMBAI: As a cyclonic circulation brews along the Telangana-Vidarbha border, Maharashtra is set for another bout of intense weather on Saturday, with forecasts pointing to heavy to very heavy rainfall across large swathes of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has activated a yellow alert for 20 districts, urging residents to stay vigilant amid potential thunderstorms and gusty winds.
The alert stems from the active low-pressure system that’s already triggered widespread showers, and experts predict the downpours will persist unabated through the weekend and into early next week. Central Maharashtra and Marathwada regions are expected to bear the brunt, with Vidarbha also facing scattered spells of rain over the next four days.
In the bustling metropolis of Mumbai, the IMD anticipates a predominantly cloudy sky throughout the day, giving way to light to moderate rainfall by evening hours. Temperatures are projected to hover between a high of 30 degrees Celsius and a low of 24 degrees Celsius, offering little respite from the humid conditions. While the Konkan division may see pockets of moderate rain, no formal alerts have been raised for its districts.
Western Maharashtra faces heightened risks, with yellow warnings in place for Pune, Satara, Sangli, and Solapur. Here, heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms and winds gusting at 30-40 km/h could disrupt daily routines and travel.
Northern Maharashtra isn’t spared either: Nashik, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, and Ahilyanagar have all received yellow alerts, where intense rain is likely to lash multiple locations.
Marathwada’s forecast turns ominous for most areas, excluding Hingoli and Nanded. The IMD has issued warnings for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Dharashiv, Parbhani, and Latur, signaling fierce downpours laced with thunder and blustery winds.
This multi-day deluge underscores the IMD’s ongoing monitoring of the cyclonic influences, as the state grapples with the dual challenges of flooding risks and agricultural impacts. Authorities advise caution on roads and preparedness for power outages in vulnerable zones.
