As Maharashtra emerges from weeks of erratic downpours, a refreshing chill is set to descend on the region, offering long-awaited relief to residents weary of persistent humidity. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a noticeable dip in temperatures across the state, with Mumbai and its surrounding areas likely to see a drop of 4 to 5 degrees Celsius over the next two days, from November 6 to 7. This shift signals the onset of drier conditions, even as isolated spells of light to moderate rain with thunder remain possible in select pockets.
In the coming 24 hours, central Maharashtra, south Konkan, and Goa could experience intermittent showers accompanied by gusty winds, according to the Regional Weather Center. However, the overall trend points toward clearer skies and cooling air, particularly after the low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal dissipates. The IMD predicts a broader decline in minimum temperatures by 2 to 4 degrees statewide within the next two days, easing the sticky atmosphere that has dominated Mumbai’s suburbs, the Konkan belt, and south-central parts of the state.

For weeks, untimely monsoon-like rains and stormy conditions have kept humidity levels high, disrupting daily life and agriculture. On November 6, light precipitation is still anticipated in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Marathwada, and south-central Maharashtra. Yet, starting November 7, the weather is expected to turn predominantly dry. Mumbai’s skies will stay partly cloudy, with a crisp edge to the daytime air and a noticeable coolness in the early mornings—a welcome change for urban dwellers.
The IMD’s latest bulletin highlights hazy circular winds over the Bay of Bengal contributing to this transition, allowing temperatures to fall by 2 to 3 degrees in the immediate 24-hour window. With rains tapering off, citizens can finally anticipate some respite from the oppressive moisture.
This cooling trend arrives at an opportune moment for farmers, as the subsiding rains pave the way for favorable conditions in rabi crop sowing. Delayed by recent deluges that inflicted heavy losses, planting activities across Maharashtra now stand to benefit from the emerging dry spell, potentially stabilizing the agricultural calendar.
