Mumbai Traffic Police Grants NOC For Concretization Of Nepean Road

Mumbai: The Mumbai Traffic Police has finally granted approval for cement concretization of Nepean Sea Road between Mukesh Chowk and Priyadarshini Park in South Mumbai’s upscale area. Work on the 770-meter-long and 27.45-meter-wide road is set to begin in the first phase from Tuesday. To prevent traffic disruptions during concretization, the road will be partially closed with alternative route arrangements in place.

According to Assistant Commissioner Manish Valunj of the Municipal Corporation’s D Ward, the approval from traffic police was awaited as this area is considered a VIP zone. The No Objection Certificate has now been received and work will commence immediately. The target is to complete the first phase of concretization before the monsoon season arrives.

In the first phase, concretization work will be undertaken on Nepean Sea Road in South Mumbai, which has a total length of 1,950 meters, including 200 meters of bridge. Of this, concretization work will be carried out on 1,750 meters of road. The first phase will cover concretization of 770 meters in length and 27.45 meters in width between Mukesh Chowk and Priyadarshini Park. Work will begin on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. The plan is to complete the first phase of Nepean Sea Road concretization before the monsoon.

Then Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had directed completion of the road concretization project worth Rs 17,000 crore within two years on July 23, 2022. In this project that began in January 2023, an average of 63 percent work has been completed so far, with 77 percent of the first phase work finished. The second phase is 52 percent complete.
