MUMBAI – In a shocking daytime shooting that has rattled Mumbai’s western suburbs, Kandivali police have launched an intensive manhunt for three motorcycle-riding attackers who critically wounded a local real estate agent in the Charkop neighborhood. The assault, which unfolded around 2 p.m. on Wednesday near the Garuda petrol pump, left the victim fighting for his life after he was struck by multiple bullets, two of which surgeons later extracted during emergency treatment.
The target, Freddy D’Lima, a man in his 40s employed as an estate agent in Kandivali West, had only moments earlier stepped out of a friend’s store adjacent to Father Susai English High School. As he made his way toward his vehicle, the assailants – crammed triple-seated on a single bike – pulled up abruptly. One of them, wearing a helmet to conceal his identity, hopped off and unleashed shots from what investigators suspect was a crude, locally fabricated revolver. The gunman then remounted, and the group fled the scene at high speed, vanishing into the bustling streets.
Alert bystanders acted swiftly, ferrying the bloodied D’Lima to the nearby Oscar Multispeciality Hospital in Kandivali West, where medical staff stabilized his condition. He continues to receive close monitoring as doctors work to ensure his recovery.

Speaking to reporters, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 11) Sandeep Jadhav revealed that surveillance footage from area CCTV cameras captured the attackers’ movements in clear detail. “Our initial probe suggests the perpetrators had surveilled the location beforehand, lying in wait specifically for D’Lima to leave the shop,” Jadhav explained. The brazen nature of the “triple-seated” getaway has only heightened concerns over the assailants’ audacity.
Authorities have formally lodged charges of attempted murder against the unidentified suspects, with detectives now probing potential triggers for the violence. While no immediate claims of responsibility have surfaced, the incident underscores rising tensions in the competitive real estate sector, though police emphasize that a thorough inquiry will uncover the underlying cause.
As forensic teams comb the site for shell casings and additional leads, Kandivali residents remain on edge, urging quicker action to prevent further escalations in this densely populated enclave. The police operation, involving multiple teams and tech-assisted tracking, promises no respite until the shooters are apprehended.
