Mumbai to Welcome First New Railway Terminus in 34 Years Jogeshwari Set to Ease City’s Congestion
Jogeshwari Terminus, Mumbai's first greenfield terminus since 1991, is expected to begin operations by late 2025, easing the load on key city stations.

Mumbai is gearing up to launch a major addition to its railway infrastructure for the first time in 34 years. The Jogeshwari Terminus, currently under development, is scheduled to become operational by October or November 2025. This significant upgrade is aimed at decongesting the city’s crowded railway hubs such as Bandra, Dadar, and Mumbai Central, according to a report by Media Source.
Strategic Location and Investment
The terminus is being constructed near the Ram Mandir suburban station, offering seamless connectivity to the Western Express Highway. It also sits just 500 metres from the nearest metro station. The project is being developed at a cost of ₹76.84 crore.
Infrastructure and Operational Details
Designed to cater to long-distance and high-capacity rail traffic, the terminus will house three platforms—one home platform and an island platform each stretching 600 metres. Initially, platforms 2 and 3 will be functional, with platform 1 to follow in a later phase.
Capable of handling 24-coach trains, Jogeshwari Terminus will serve 12 mail and express trains daily. The design also includes two berthing lines for train parking and a dedicated line for shunting operations. Additionally, the station will be equipped with train watering systems to enable swift turnarounds without the need for extensive maintenance.
Passenger Facilities
The terminus will feature a modern Ground+3 station building offering enhanced passenger amenities. These include both VIP and general air-conditioned waiting lounges furnished with showers, toilets, charging stations, and a pantry for traveler convenience.
This marks Mumbai’s first greenfield terminus since the inauguration of the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) in 1991, signaling a major step forward in the city’s railway development.
