Mumbai Rains Flood Amitabh Bachchan’s Iconic Bungalow Prateeksha

Mumbai: The relentless downpour in Mumbai has left large parts of the city waterlogged, disrupting daily life and bringing traffic to a standstill. Among the affected areas is actor Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic Juhu residence Prateeksha, which has been inundated by floodwater caused by the heavy rains.

A video aired by a news channel shows water levels rising outside the bungalow, with ankle-deep flooding spilling into the premises. Located in Juhu, Prateeksha is one of Bachchan’s two well-known residences, the other being Jalsa, where the superstar currently lives with his family.

Bought after the success of SholayPrateeksha was the Bachchan family’s first home in Mumbai. The late poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and his wife Teji lived there with their son for decades. Both Shweta Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan were born in this house, which remained the family’s residence for over 45 years before the shift to Jalsa.

The bungalow, valued at over ₹50 crore, was reportedly gifted by Amitabh to his daughter Shweta. It holds deep emotional value, not only because of its association with Harivansh Rai Bachchan who named the house after a line from his own poetry but also because it was the venue where Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai tied the knot in 2007.

Mumbai Showers Bring City to a Halt

Mumbai has been battered by incessant rains for three consecutive days, severely impacting transport and daily life. Local train services and several flights were disrupted, while heavy traffic jams were reported in multiple areas on Tuesday morning.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the city, predicting “very heavy rainfall” in isolated zones. Even Mumbai Airport recorded significant waterlogging amid the downpour, highlighting the scale of disruption caused by the monsoon rains.
