PUNE: A tragic accident unfolded on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Saturday afternoon, claiming one life and injuring 18 others when a container trailer truck collided with approximately 20 vehicles. The incident occurred near the Adoshi tunnel in Khalapur taluka, Raigad district, under the jurisdiction of Khopoli police station, according to local authorities.
Police reported that the truck, suspected to have suffered brake failure, lost control and smashed into a line of vehicles, including high-end models such as BMWs and Mercedes-Benz cars. The collision caused significant damage, with several vehicles severely impacted. All 19 injured individuals were promptly transported to a private hospital in Navi Mumbai for treatment. Tragically, one woman succumbed to her injuries, as confirmed by a police official.
The truck driver has been detained by Khopoli police for further investigation. A preliminary medical examination ruled out alcohol consumption as a factor in the crash, authorities noted. The investigation remains ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
