Mumbai Metro Line 3 Introduces Seamless Travel with NCMC Card

Mumbai, June 11, 2025: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unveiled the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for Mumbai Metro Line 3, known as the Aqua Line, on Tuesday, marking a significant step toward integrating the city’s public transportation network. The contactless RuPay NCMC card, operational from Wednesday, enables passengers to travel effortlessly across Metro Line 3 stations, spanning from Aarey JVLR to Acharya Atre Chowk, without the need to queue at ticket counters.
The NCMC card is fully compatible with other major Mumbai Metro lines, including Line 1, Line 2A, and Line 7, as well as Chalo Buses, facilitating a smooth, multi-modal commuting experience. The launch event, held at Mantralaya, was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, and other senior officials.
Commuters already holding NCMC cards issued by the State Bank of India (SBI) or other providers can use them on Metro Line 3 starting Wednesday. New users can obtain a free card at any Metro Line 3 station or participating SBI branches, with a minimum top-up of Rs 100 and a maximum of Rs 2,000, according to officials.
Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director of the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating, “The integration of the NCMC card into Mumbai Metro Line 3 is a pivotal milestone in our pursuit of a smart, commuter-focused urban transport system. As the city’s first fully underground metro corridor, Line 3 is equipped with cutting-edge infrastructure, and this contactless payment solution is a key component of that vision. We are thrilled to partner with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and SBI to deliver a seamless, hassle-free travel experience for Mumbaikars while advancing the Government of India’s NCMC program.”
