Mumbai commuters are bracing for significant interruptions to local train services as Central Railway’s Mumbai Division schedules a comprehensive mega block on September 21, 2025, to execute critical engineering and maintenance activities across its suburban network.
In a move aimed at bolstering track safety and infrastructure reliability, the block will impact key sections of the main line and Harbour line, prompting diversions, halts, and cancellations that could add up to 10 minutes to journey times.
Main Line Operations
The fast lines in both up and down directions between Thane and Kalyan will undergo closure from 10:40 a.m. to 3:40 p.m.
Down fast and semi-fast locals originating from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) between 9:34 a.m. and 3:03 p.m. are set to reroute onto the down slow line from Thane to Kalyan, with additional stops at Kalva, Mumbra, and Diva alongside their usual halts. These trains will reach their destinations approximately 10 minutes behind schedule.
Similarly, up fast and semi-fast services leaving Kalyan from 10:28 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. will shift to the up slow line between Kalyan and Thane, incorporating extra halts at Diva, Mumbra, and Kalva before reverting to the up fast line at Mulund. Expect a 10-minute delay upon arrival.
Mail and express trains in the down direction from CSMT or Dadar will bypass the affected stretch via the fifth line between Thane and Kalyan. Their up counterparts arriving at CSMT or Dadar will utilize the sixth line from Kalyan to Thane or Vikhroli.
Harbour Line and Trans-Harbour Line Impacts
From 11:05 a.m. to 4:05 p.m., up and down Harbour line services between Panvel and Vashi excluding the Port line will be suspended.
On the Harbour line, up services to CSMT from Panvel between 10:33 a.m. and 3:49 p.m., along with down services to Belapur or Panvel from CSMT between 9:45 a.m. and 3:12 p.m., face full cancellation.
The Trans-Harbour line will see up trains to Thane from Panvel (11:02 a.m. to 3:53 p.m.) and down trains to Panvel from Thane (10:01 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.) also cancelled.
To ease the strain, Central Railway will deploy special local trains on the CSMT-Vashi route throughout the block hours. Trans-Harbour connectivity will persist between Thane and Vashi/Nerul stations, while Port line operations remain unaffected.
Rail officials underscore the necessity of these periodic blocks for preserving the lifeline of Mumbai’s transport system. Travelers are urged to plan alternate routes and extend patience amid the temporary disruptions.
