Mumbai – Central Railway’s Mumbai Division has scheduled a critical maintenance operation, known as a mega block, on its suburban network during the late-night hours of August 16-17, 2025. According to a statement from Central Railway’s Public Relations Department the block will affect the Up and Down fast lines between Vidyavihar and Thane from 12:30 am to 4:30 am. This work is essential for maintaining the railway infrastructure and ensuring passenger safety.
During the four-hour window, fast line services will face significant disruptions. Down fast trains leaving Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) between 11:54 pm and 3:37 am will be rerouted to the Down slow line at Vidyavihar, stopping at Kurla, Ghatkopar, Vikroli, and Thane, and will arrive at their destinations approximately 15 minutes late. Similarly, Up fast trains departing Thane from 12:35 am to 4:08 am will be diverted to the Up slow line at Thane, with stops at Thane, Vikroli, Ghatkopar, and Kurla, also arriving 15 minutes behind schedule. Fast trains beyond Thane will revert to the fast line at Mulund.
The last Down fast train before the block will depart CSMT at 11:49 pm, heading to Badlapur, while the first after the block will leave at 3:53 am for Kalyan. On the Up fast line, the last train before the block will arrive at CSMT at 12:27 am from Ambernath, with the first post-block train arriving at 4:45 am from Kasara.
Central Railway emphasized that these maintenance blocks are vital for infrastructure upkeep and passenger safety. The railway authorities have urged commuters to plan their travel accordingly and bear with the inconvenience caused by these necessary works.
