Mumbai Boosts Security for Eid, Gudi Padwa with 14,000 Police

Authorities in Mumbai have bolstered security measures in preparation for the upcoming celebrations of Eid-ul-Fitr and Gudi Padwa, deploying a formidable force of 14,000 police personnel across the city. The move, aims to ensure public safety and maintain order during the festive period, which coincides this year on Sunday and Monday.
According to a senior police official , the deployment includes seven additional commissioners, 17 deputy commissioners, 50 assistant commissioners, 1,982 officers, and 11,820 constables. This extensive manpower will be stationed strategically throughout Mumbai to oversee the smooth conduct of events tied to both festivals. Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, and Gudi Padwa, the traditional Hindu New Year celebrated widely in Maharashtra, are expected to draw large crowds for prayers, processions, and communal gatherings.
The official emphasized that the heightened security is a proactive step to address the anticipated influx of people at mosques, Eidgahs, and public spaces where Gudi Padwa festivities, such as Shobha Yatras (processions), are planned. Mumbai’s police force is tasked with managing traffic, preventing disruptions, and ensuring that the celebrations remain peaceful.
This large-scale mobilization underscores the city’s commitment to safeguarding its residents during a time of dual religious and cultural significance. The measures reflect Mumbai’s history of maintaining law and order during major festivals, with authorities leaving no stone unturned to facilitate a harmonious observance of both occasions. As the city gears up for Sunday’s festivities, the robust police presence serves as a reassurance to Mumbaikars enjoying the back-to-back celebrations.
