Mumbai Hospital Faces Bomb Threat Amid Heightened City Alert

Mumbai police intensified security measures on Sunday following a bomb threat targeting Nair Hospital, just days after a chilling warning of 34 “human bombs” across the city. According to officials , a threatening call was received late Saturday night, around 11 pm, at the hospital’s dean’s official email, claiming an imminent attack on the premises. The alarming message prompted an immediate response, with police and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) conducting an extensive search of the hospital grounds. After hours of inspection, authorities found no suspicious items, declaring the threat a hoax.

This incident follows a disturbing pattern of recent false alarms in Mumbai. On Friday, a call to the traffic police helpline claimed that 34 vehicles, each carrying “human bombs” and 400 kg of RDX, were positioned to cause explosions that would “shake the entire city.” The message, attributed to an organization identifying itself as “Lashkar-e-Jihadi,” triggered a citywide high alert. Mumbai police, supported by the Crime Branch and Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), launched a thorough investigation, but no credible threat was substantiated.

The city has faced similar hoax threats in recent months. In August, the ISKCON temple in Girgaon received a bomb threat email, later deemed false after a BDDS sweep. Similarly, a July threat targeting Terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport proved unfounded. On Monday, a 43-year-old man from Thane was arrested for a hoax call about a bomb at Kalwa railway station, highlighting the recurring challenge of false threats.

Mumbai police continue to investigate the Nair Hospital incident, emphasizing vigilance while urging the public to report suspicious activity and avoid spreading rumors. The repeated hoaxes underscore the strain on law enforcement as they balance heightened security with ongoing festival preparations, including Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
