Traffic movement in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) was severely affected after a construction accident at the Metro Line 2B site near Diamond Market led authorities to implement road diversions during peak hours.According to a report by the Free Press Journal, the incident occurred during the installation of a metro bridge girder when a mobile crane reportedly lost balance. The crane overturned while lifting a heavy beam, causing the girder to collapse onto the machinery below.
The mishap resulted in significant congestion across BKC, a key commercial hub already known for heavy traffic. Commuters faced delays as vehicle movement slowed considerably, particularly in areas surrounding the Diamond Market. A report by LokmatTimes, cited by the Free Press Journal, indicated that traffic snarls were especially severe near the ICICI Bank BEST bus stop signal, with navigation data also showing heavy congestion along nearby routes.
In response, traffic authorities introduced diversions to ease the pressure on affected roads and manage the increased vehicular load. These measures were aimed at streamlining traffic flow and minimizing disruption during busy commuting hours. The accident added to the existing strain on BKC’s road network, intensifying travel challenges for office-goers and daily commuters. Visual indicators from mapping services highlighted slow-moving traffic in and around the impacted zone, reflecting the scale of disruption.Authorities continue to monitor the situation while urging motorists to use alternate routes and plan their journeys in advance.
