Mumbai : It was a grim scene that played out in the premises of D-Mart supermarket at Versova, Andheri (West), when staff of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) led by the party’s unit president Sandesh Desai thrashed one employee for failing to use Marathi. The brawl took place on Tuesday after a video clip came to light where the store employee informed a customer that he would speak only Hindi and not Marathi, saying, “I will not speak in Marathi, I will speak only in Hindi. Do what you want to do.”
When they heard about the incident, MNS workers accosted the staffer at the supermarket. The group allegedly slapped the employee in return, and another video showing the physical fight soon went viral on social media. The incident has caused outrage and widespread debate online.
After the altercation, the employee of the supermarket apologized for his words. Authorities are probing the incident as the controversy draws more attention on multiple platforms.
