Mithun Chakraborty Served BMC Notice Over Alleged Unauthorized Construction In Malad

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has slapped a show cause notice on veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty over alleged unauthorized construction on a plot located in the Madh area in Malad. The civic body has claimed that the actor constructed ground-level structures without securing official approval.

The notice, issued on 10, directs Chakraborty to explain the alterations within seven days or face demolition of the said structures. The BMC has also warned of possible legal action under the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC) Act, citing violations of Sections 337, 342, and 347, which regulate building activity in the city.

Responding to the allegations, Chakraborty on Saturday denied any wrongdoing. “I have no unauthorized structures. The notices have been sent to one and all. We are sending a reply to the BMC,” he stated.

This development comes amid a broader crackdown by the BMC in the Madh area, where nearly 130 illegal structures, many built using forged documents, have been identified. As part of this drive, nine buildings in Erangle village were demolished on May 9. Civic authorities have pledged to clear all unauthorized constructions in the area by May 31.

BMC officials allege that the constructions on Chakraborty’s plot were executed without required permissions, prompting them to invoke Section 351(1A) of the MMC Act to issue the notice. If Chakraborty fails to provide a valid justification, the civic body has said it will proceed with demolition and may also initiate criminal proceedings under Section 475A, which carries penalties including imprisonment.

The case has sparked public interest due to Chakraborty’s high-profile status, as the civic body intensifies efforts to restore legality to construction across Mumbai’s coastal zones.
