Empty Local Train Coach Derails Near Dombivli

Mumbai: Commuters on the bustling Mumbai suburban railway network faced morning disruptions on Monday after an empty local train coach derailed close to Dombivli station in Maharashtra’s Thane district. Authorities confirmed that the incident resulted in no injuries, as the train was carrying no passengers at the time.

The derailment occurred around 8:09 am as the train proceeded from Kalwa car shed towards Kalyan. A Central Railway spokesperson verified the information, noting that the movement was part of standard operational procedures for the empty coach.

As a direct result, at least three local train services on the affected route experienced delays, leading to inconvenience for passengers during the busy peak morning hours.

The section involved forms part of the main line on Central Railway’s Mumbai suburban network, which links Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) with Thane and extends further towards Raigad district.

Railway officials stated that steps were promptly initiated to regulate traffic and restore normal services on the route at the earliest.

In a separate development reported earlier on Sunday, a wagon of a goods train derailed following a collision with a car at a level crossing in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district. Officials confirmed no injuries in that incident either.

The collision happened near an over-bridge in the Bokaro Thermal police station area. The goods train was exiting a Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) power plant after unloading coal. According to police, the level crossing gate was open when a car attempted to cross the tracks, resulting in the train striking and dragging the vehicle briefly. The impact caused one wagon to come off the tracks.

Officer-in-charge of Bokaro Thermal police station, Pinku Kumar, said the situation was quickly brought under control with no injuries reported.

Akhilesh Mishra, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Dhanbad division, explained that the train was rolling back after unloading coal at the time of the collision. He added that railway teams reached the site promptly, and an investigation has been launched to determine the precise cause.
