Gorегаm-Mulund Link Road Project: Contractor Fined Rs 50 Lakh For Delay in Flyover Construction

[From Our Correspondent]

Mumbai: A contractor has been penalised Rs 50 lakh for delaying construction of a flyover between Dindoshi Court and Film City in Goregaon, a key component of the Gorегаm-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project.

Municipal Additional Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangre reviewed the project on Wednesday and directed officials to impose the penalty on the contractor for the delay. He also instructed that the flyover work be expedited and opened to the public by May 31.

Once completed, the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road will serve as a vital corridor connecting the eastern and western suburbs of Mumbai.

Under Phase 3(A) of the project, a 1.26-kilometre elevated flyover is being constructed between Dindoshi Court, Goregaon, and Film City. Work on all 31 pillars has been completed, while 20 of the 30 spans are also finished bringing overall progress to approximately 75%. An approach road on the Film City side is yet to be built, with work currently hampered by existing water pipelines, sewer lines, and power lines. Bangre directed that these utility services be relocated without delay.

Bangre also visited the twin-tunnel launching shaft site near Film City, where preparatory work is underway. Two Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) will be deployed to construct the twin tunnels. The launching shaft measures approximately 200 metres in length, 50 metres in width, and 30 metres in depth.

Excavation of the shaft has been completed, and cradle construction for lowering the TBMs has begun. A 350-metric-tonne crane is already on-site, with an 800-metric-tonne crane expected to arrive by the last week of February. Officials have been directed to begin lowering the TBMs into the shaft by March.
