Bihar Man Arrested form Noida Over Chilling Mumbai Ganesh Visarjan Bomb Threat

Mumbai, September 6, 2025 – The Mumbai Crime Branch has apprehended a 50-year-old man, Ashwin Kumar Supra, in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, for issuing bomb threats targeting the city’s Ganesh Visarjan celebrations. The suspect, originally from Bihar, was detained after authorities traced the threatening messages sent to the Mumbai Traffic Police’s WhatsApp helpline. The phone and SIM card used to send the threats have been seized, and Supra is being transported to Mumbai for further questioning, according to Mumbai Police.
The threatening message, received on Thursday, claimed that 14 terrorists had entered Mumbai with 400 kilograms of RDX planted in 34 vehicles. The sender, identifying as part of an organization called ‘Lashkar-e-Jihadi,’ warned of explosions during Anant Chaturthi, the final day of the Ganesh festival on Saturday. This prompted an immediate citywide security alert as Mumbai prepared for the immersion of thousands of Ganesh idols, a significant event drawing large crowds to beaches, lakes, and artificial ponds.
A Mumbai Police official stated, “There is no need to panic. Security has been strengthened at key locations, and combing operations are ongoing. We urge Mumbaikars to report suspicious activity and avoid believing rumors.” The official emphasized that the police are taking all necessary precautions to ensure public safety during the festival, which sees lakhs of devotees participating in the idol immersion processions.
The arrest comes amid heightened vigilance, with Mumbai Police coordinating extensive security measures for the Ganesh Visarjan. The city expects significant footfall as devotees bid farewell to Lord Ganesh by immersing idols in various water bodies. Authorities are investigating the motive behind Supra’s threats, with further details expected as the probe continues.
