Mumbai: It is essential to verify, through on-site inspections, whether various government water supply schemes are being implemented properly. It is the responsibility of the concerned officials to ensure that citizens receive clean and uninterrupted water. Therefore, officials must conduct field visits at the regional level, directed Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Gulabrao Patil.
A review meeting was held at the Mantralaya in the context of discussions that took place during the recent meeting chaired by the Union Jal Shakti Minister in Delhi. Present at the meeting were Principal Secretary of the Water Supply and Sanitation Department Sanjay Khandare, Jal Jeevan Mission Campaign Director E. Ravindran, Chief Engineer of the department, Chief Engineer and Special Duty Officer Prashant Bhamare, and other officials via video conferencing.
Minister Patil stated that such field visits will help directly assess challenges, implementation gaps, and local needs in water schemes, allowing for timely corrections. He also stressed that local representatives should be consulted during these visits to understand ground-level issues. He informed that a Central Government team will soon visit six schemes of the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division. Departments concerned should make necessary preparations for these visits, he said.
A review was conducted of the piped water supply scheme under the Jal Jeevan Mission at Pimpri Akaraout village in Muktainagar taluka. Additionally, in Jalgaon district, 198 piped water schemes have received electricity connection permissions from MSEDCL (MahaVitaran). Work on the remaining water supply schemes should be expedited, and progress should be updated promptly on the Gati Shakti portal, Minister Patil instructed.
