Mumbai: The Election Commission of India on Monday declared the schedule for biennial elections to 16 seats of the Maharashtra Legislative Council from Local Authorities’ Constituencies. Polling for the elections will take place on June 18, 2026, while the counting of votes has been scheduled for June 22.
According to the announcement, the elections had been pending due to the non-fulfilment of mandatory conditions linked to the functioning of local bodies and the availability of electors. With the required conditions now met, the poll process has been initiated.
As per the official timetable, the notification for the elections will be issued shortly, paving the way for the filing of nominations by candidates contesting the seats.

The Election Commission’s announcement comes amid ongoing political activity in Maharashtra, where several Legislative Council seats have remained vacant. The elections are expected to witness keen interest from major political parties in the state.
The Maharashtra Legislative Council forms the upper house of the state legislature, and members from Local Authorities’ Constituencies are elected through an indirect voting process involving elected representatives from local bodies.
The voting process for all 16 seats will be conducted on June 18, and the results will be declared after the counting of votes on June 22. PTI reported that the Election Commission issued the poll schedule on Monday.
